Shirley Ping

Okay Marilyn this is for you.... :) My name is Shirley (Selvage) Ping, I'll be 60 in November, my father was Clifton Selvage and my mother was Hazel Tidwell Selvage. Grandparents were Archie Wade Selvage and Maggie Jane Bullock Selvage and Fred Tidwell and Fannie Shelton Tidwell. My mother was born and raised in the Letcher community and did not leave the mountain until she was 12 years old. My father moved around a lot but has ties to Grant, Dutton, Letcher and Nat and I'm sure others that I don't know about. Kevin Tidwell is my first cousin, his father Freddie was my mother's brother. Bruce Selvage is my brother. Laura Schuman is my daughter and Winnie Manning is my daughter. Sydney Kerlin is my great niece, April is her mother and my niece. (Bruce's daughter and granddaughter)Ryan Satterfield is my nephew. Bruce has been posting geneology information that he has, relating to both sides of the family, as he obtains it. Census reports and things like that. Hope this gives you a little more insight as to how we are related. We have ties to this area that go back generations. However, I did not grow up here. My father moved the family to Indiana when I was 3 yrs old to find work, then he answered the call of God on his life and became a minister and spent 30 - 40 years traveling and preaching God's Word until he retired. He pastored churches in Indiana, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Illinois before coming back to the mountain to live out the rest of his days. He passed away in 2005 of a brain tumor and we are still taking care of my mother who will be 87 in September and suffers from Dementia but still gets around fairly good for her age. I think her biggest problem is missing dad. I moved back to Alabama in 1976.
